FHM Upper Elementary Community

The UE team first wants to say how fortunate we are to be part of such a strong, supportive community. We are thankful for the grace & flexibility you are showing us & our students during this time of uncertainty. We are confident that through your support, learning will continue for your children throughout this online learning experience.

The following is information we hope will help you navigate this first week of online learning. Updates will be provided by the district & FHM administration as they are made available.

Yours in partnership,
Miranda, Kate, Shannon, & Paige

Google Classroom

Because we have used this platform for the Mystery History, Science Fair, & now Critical Thinking projects, your child is most familiar with this online learning platform. This is where your child will access all links & materials for the online learning experience. We urge you to set up Google as your internet browser’s homepage & practice logging in with your child prior to 9:00 am on Tuesday.

Once logged in, your child should be able to pull up Google Classroom by selecting the Google apps icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. The Google Classroom icon is a green chalkboard. The next step is to select your student’s classroom, then “classwork” along the top of the screen. From the list of topics, scroll down to Online Learning & select the material titled Daily Schedule for Students. From here, you should be able to support your child in working through his/her school day. Honestly, your child will most likely be showing you how all of this works :)

Google Chat

Lead teachers will be taking attendance each day by 9:15 am via Google Chat. To access this feature, start again by selecting the Google apps icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. The Google Chat icon is a teal speech bubble. All UE leads previewed this feature with students on Friday, so it should be familiar to them. At 9:00 am, each lead will start a thread. To be counted as present, your child must respond to the chain with “here”, “present”, or something of the sort. Any student response received after 9:15 am will be counted as tardy. No response will be counted as absent. If your student is unable to log on to Google Chat for any reason, please email your classroom teacher by 9:00 am.

An additional check in will happen at 2:00 pm each day. Please remind your child that Google Chat should only be utilized for attendance purposes, NOT general questions or social talk. All other communication will be done via email or Google Classroom.

Gmail

We are asking for all student questions to be communicated through our Gmail accounts. The school day for students is 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Students are welcome to send emails outside of this timeframe. Please know that we will respond during school hours. Parents, you may of course email any academic or student specific questions at any time as well & we will work to reply within 48 hours as is our normal school policy.
