Student Council Officer Election

Student Council class representatives in grades 4th - 8th grade are eligible to run for the Executive Board. The Executive Board consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. 

Campaigning Requirements (all are due via the form below to Ms. Susan  by 2pm Monday, October 19th.)

1. Applications
Applications must be fully thought out and completed in full sentences. 

2. Posters 
Candidates must make one large digital poster that includes first name ONLY, desired position, and at least 1 reason why voters should vote for you. Posters will be shared on FHM social media so keep detailed information off. Email posters to Ms. Susan - [email protected]

3. Speeches 
Each candidate will make a 2-3 minute speech. Candidates write and choose what to say in their speech. All speeches must be school appropriate. The candidate's speech should answer some questions such as: why you are the right choice for the office, what makes you a good candidate, how you might improve our student community. Each candidate must turn his/her speech script into Ms. Susan by 2pm on Friday, October 16th for approval prior to videotaping. The speeches will be videotaped on Monday, October 19th or Tuesday, October 20th and then viewed by the entire student body in respective homerooms, with classroom voting ending on Friday, October 23rd. The executive offices will be filled before the Student Council meeting on Oct. 23rd.

Campaigning items that are not allowed:
Stickers, balloons, buttons, pens, pictures, pamphlets or handouts.  

Responsibilities of Elected Candidates
Members of the Executive Board are required to attend all student council meetings. If the elected candidate has 3 unexcused missed meetings, he or she will be asked to resign and the runner up will take the place of the resigned officer (with the exception of excused absences, including illness or prior notice given to an adult Student Council Committee member).

2020-21  Student Council Job Descriptions


President
Presides at Student Council meetings.
Sets the example with leadership and modeling appropriate behavior. 
Meets with Secretary to prepare agenda prior to each meeting (the last 10 minutes of each meeting).
Reviews the year’s activities and makes recommendations.


Vice President 
Acts in the absence of the President.
Oversees reporting information to primary grades.
Keeps a record of committee assignments and job assignments given to representatives.
Records attendance at the beginning of each meeting. 


Secretary
Maintains accurate minutes of meetings, in a Google Doc. 
Meets with the President to prepare the agenda for each meeting.
Reads aloud the minutes from the previous meeting to the student council.
Writes thank you notes when needed.


Treasurer
Keeps track of expenditures.
Meets with Ms. Karen, as appropriate, to determine budget updates.
Reports the updated budget at each council meeting.


Class Representatives
Attends council meetings, the second and fourth Friday of every month.
Reports important information back to his/her homeroom. 
Bring ideas to student council from homeroom.
Participates in preparing/distributing advertising for planned events.
